A virtual pub quiz for a pharmaceutical brand

Background

We have successfully delivered events for this pharmaceutical brand for five years so when they asked us for a virtual team build for 450, we put our thinking caps firmly on.

They already had a date in mind, which gave us a two-week lead time to propose our ideas and put all the plans in place to make the virtual team building event a great success.

Location:

National

Category:

Employee engagement

Sector:

Pharmaceutical

Objectives

Our pharmaceutical customer wanted to hold a fun, informal and professional team build online to boost morale amongst teams and engage their workforce. They also wanted there to be an option for their employee’s families to get involved too.

To meet these objectives, as well as catering for up to 450 attendees, we knew a virtual pub quiz (ran professionally by a facilitator, aka the Quiz Master) would be just the ticket.

In a period of crisis and lockdown, this virtual quiz was a truly fantastic way to bring our employees together for some light-hearted, competitive fun.

Some attendees even went as far as to say: “Wow, great event and whilst not only having fun it was a great opportunity to drag my teenagers from their rooms and iPhones to join in as a family, thank you”. Can’t recommend the virtual quiz enough, we will definitely be holding another one during lockdown!

Solution

All attendees were invited to the virtual pub quiz with an electronic invite. We worked closely with our customer and our preferred quiz supplier to create an invite that was both informative and clear to make sure the event happened as seamlessly as possible.

As the Easter weekend began, the attendees had the option to join the virtual pub quiz, catering for all employees and their families at ‘happy hour’.

To make sure the quiz engaged the workforce, we worked closely with the facilitator and our customer to make sure the opening messages of the quiz were just right. We also decided on the quiz rounds together and discussed the possibility of a bespoke round about the pharmaceutical
brand itself.

The virtual pub was hosted via an online communication platform with a streamed host, and it was made available to all employees. Each attendee could access the quiz through any device, whether that was a laptop, a tablet or a mobile phone from the comfort of their own home.

As a part of the quiz, each attendee was sent two secure links; one enabled them to access the quiz and a second link gave them their answer board, consisting of multiple choice questions.

For each question, the attendees had a set amount of time to answer and the quicker they answered, the higher their score. The score was worked out automatically and the leader board was updated in real time, helping to further build anticipation and engagement.

The virtual pub quiz lasted for 1.5 hours, included a few family friendly questions and consisted of the following rounds:

  • General knowledge.

  • Television.

  • Countries and geography.

  • True or false.

  • Movies.

  • Sport.

  • Crazy conundrums (a little like countdown, where they

  • had to utilise the letters to make the word (the quiz

  • master also gave the attendees some clues)).

  • Music.

  • Name the famous face.

  •

All the questions and rounds were guided by a professional host, also known as the Quiz Master, who was streamed live via a video link and included interactive elements so attendees could engage with the host.

Results

The event was a resounding success. It connected employees and the post-event feedback has been truly amazing - so much so that the next virtual pub quiz was scheduled for just a few weeks later!
