Almost £10,000 donated in charity donations by NYS Meeting and Events

After a record year of charity fundraising, NYS and Capita Travel and Events has raised almost £10,000 for various causes throughout the UK.

Team members have tirelessly fundraised over the year, holding cake sales, fitness challenges and even organised a charity a ball - raising £1,500 for the Rays of Sunshine so a terminally ill girl could fulfil her dream of going to Disneyland Paris.

Office fundraising ensured vital charities were supported throughout the year, which included the likes of Cancer Research UK, Macmillan Coffee Morning North West Air Ambulance, Action Medical Research, St Leonards Hospice, Heart UK, Comic Relief, Brain Tumour Awareness, Alzheimer's Society and Children in Need.

This was ramped up over the festive period, with over 400 coats and 50 winter accessories donated as part of Village Hotels’ Hope for a Coat appeal, to keep those less fortunate warm over the winter season. The Taunton office ran a ‘Secret Santa with a twist’, with teams spending their £5 on food bank donations rather than gifts for each other – equating to a whopping £175 worth of food.

As well as sponsored activities and raising funds. Over £200 worth of food was donated to nationwide food bank network, The Trussell Trust, to provide nutritionally-balanced emergency food to people who have been referred in crisis.

Activities throughout the year raised over £5,000-worth of valuable funds, with over £3,000 raised through a sponsored sleep-out for Buses 4 Homeless, so they can refurbish decommissioned buses into spaces for re-engaging homeless people back into the community.

“We are always looking at new ways to drive engagement and get involved as part of our commitment to be a responsible business and engage with our local communities. It is fantastic to see our teams get so involved – many of which have won internal recognition for the work they have done to positively impact our local communities. We have achieved so much in the last year and excited to have more initiatives in 2020 to help people and raise awareness of important issues,” says Kim Milsom, HR Business Partner for NYS Meeting and Events.
